Light Rail - After Dark : Somehow this $4 Billion boondoggle has found a way to be beautiful at night. As darkness creeps in, the scene becomes dramatic and colorful with the reflections of the lights from cars & trucks passing by and the traffic lights constantly changing colors. This lends a mysterious glow and tint to the stainless steel look of the train. Later, when I was able to catch the scene during and after a modest rainfall, the added reflections from the water on the pavement produced another dimension to the scene.

I hope you enjoy these scenes enough to leave your comments. Thank you.

Your Bio

I bought my first 35 mm camera in 1979. It was a used Pentax ME that I had until I made the switch to Canon's EOS auto-focus system. I am completely self-taught in photography except for the change-over to digital that I made in 2004. I use a Canon Digital Rebel Xsi and am loving it.

I decided I wanted a "digital darkroom" in my computer so I took some Photoshop courses at GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. I placed second in "Digital Photography" during the STUDENT ART SHOW in 2005 with my composition, "WRIGLEY & McKINLEY" and in 2007, my DIGITAL ART image, "WHERE TO NEXT" was featured on the title page of "THE TRAVELER" magazine, published annually by GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

I was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer in November, 2005 but completed the Photoshop course and scored an "A". I had an Esophagectomy in February, 2006 and finished my chemo and radiation treatments in August, 2006.

This illness spurred me to actively pursue a second career as a freelance photographer so I can share my vision of this beautiful world with others. I live by the motto of this poem:

"Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Live it as though it is your last."

IMPLOSION!!! : Sunday, September 27, 2009 @ 10:05 AM PST, the Beadle Building went out with a BOOM! In approxiamately 5 seconds there was a cloud of dust & a pile of scrap remaing where this stripped building once stood. Amazing to me was the crowd that turned out to witness this event. My estimate, viewing from the top floor of a parking garage about a block and a half away from the site, is that there must have been in excess of 5,000 & as many as 10,000 people that had brought chairs, snacks & drinks along with a large number of children to experience this interesting event.

"DAY OF THE SPANISH HORSE" : WOW! Even though the day started out with a near disaster in rehearsel, the events of the day came off without any incidents.

I am impressed with the talent & effort these people invest in these beautiful animals. This is "class" as far as the performance & showmanship we witnessed on this very bright sunshiny Saturday in the desert south of Phoenix @ Estrella Mountain Park. Unfortunately for the participants, not a lot of people knew about this extravaganza but that meant we had no problems with parking, wandering, meeting people & finding positions from which from which to take pictures.

Thank you to EVERYONE who attended & participated in "The Day of the Spanish Horse." And a very special thank you to Jan for offering this option for something new & different to shoot! This was a photo opportunity & an education all in one morning.

Photo Settings : Encanto Park, located in the one of the older, more exclusive neighborhoods in Central Phoenix, is one of the most photogenic settings for candid portraits in the city.

Following the park, are some settings available at The Phoenix Garden Club, about 2 blocks south of the park. This is a little more intimate setting but also works well for candid portraits of couples or families.

Next, we have the Nelson House, situated across the street from the Encanto Golf Course, north of the park, this very beautiful turn of the century home is owned by the City of Phoenix and makes a very elegant setting for couples wishing for something a bit more formal.

The Grand Canyon Trip : I made my first solo trip to the Grand Canyon August 2,3 & 4 of 2007. What an experience! I believe the granduer is even more magnificent when one is alone than with other people. If there is nobody there to disturb you, your thoughts are yours alone. It is hard to imagine, even when you are standing on the edge, that this is not a movie set that you have wondered into. I did not take any kind of ipod (or such) with me so the solitude was near deafening at times. When sunset came near and the wind died down as it usually does as the air cools, the silense was even more obvious because the sounds of the birds and other creatures became that much more vivid. It also became quite evident that through these eyes a little piece of heaven could be glimpsed. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed capturing them for you.

The Vulture Gold Mine - Circa 1883 : The Vulture Gold Mine in Wickenburg, Arizona was discovered more than a century ago in October, 1863. It was closed by a Federal Edict called Government Order L-208 in 1942 shortly after America got in World War II. The mine was purchased on November 7, 1961 by Dr. Geroge H Mangun as a site for his organization, The Desert Science Center. This never came to be.

This building was made of rich gold ore and now is said to be valuable enough that the owner would never have to work again in his/her lifetime.

I felt the site and story required the images be converted to black & white. Thank you for indulging my vision.
